Enrollment

A SIMPLE, STRAIGHTFORWARD PROCESS

Enrolling with TSNY is easy. Just reach out to us by phone or email, schedule a free consultation, or enroll directly through our intake form. You do not need to have the answer to every question on our form, or know everything about your exam. Simply tell us about what you’re looking for, and we’ll find a tutor and package to match. Once you have reached out, a team member will be in touch with you within 24 hours to discuss your needs, work out a schedule, and discuss materials.

SELECTING A TUTOR

The tutor-student relationship is at the heart of what we do. We work to ensure that we match students with the tutor that best fits their needs and learning styles. We are a small group, and the tutor you select may be booked when you are available. Fortunately, Each of our team members goes through rigorous training, and teaches a wide variety of exams and subjects, to ensure that all of our tutors are great fits for every kind of student.

PREPARING FOR THE FIRST LESSON

When you enroll, a TSNY team member will talk to you about your needs, timeline, and expectations, as well as the student’s experience with the material, and learning style. The tutor will also discuss these matters with the student during the first lesson. Together, the student and tutor will prepare a plan of action for future sessions. The tutor and student can work off of one of our ready-made syllabi, or prepare a totally new course. Depending on needs and timeline, the tutor will inform you of what materials to buy for lessons either before or after the first session. After each session, your tutor will send you a session report detailing the session’s activities, the student’s homework for the next lesson, and the plan for the lessons to come.

Flexibility

The time you book with TSNY is your time. Students are free to devote session time to other work if they need urgent help with an assignment in their subject, or have lessons leftover from a package. There’s no need to purchase a new package.

Roll Lessons into Bigger Packages

Students completing smaller packages can roll lessons into bigger packages, meaning that students doing a Basic Package can sign up for five more lessons at the rate of our Standard Package instead of enrolling in a second Basic Package.

One Easy Payment

To keep things simple, we bill upfront. That way you don’t have to deal with the headaches of working out payment with your tutor from week to week, or keep tabs on costs. We accept credit card, Zelle, Venmo, and PayPal. We do not accept check.

Commitment and Flexibility

When you enroll, you and a TSNY team member will discuss the number of lessons you would like to have, and when. The team member will then coordinate with the tutor to ensure they will be available for the times and dates you ask for. Your tutor will always available at the agreed upon dates and times. If your plans change, you can always reach out to your tutor to reschedule a lesson. If your schedule changes permanently, your tutor will do their best to accommodate the shift. In the event your tutor is not available at the new times you request, we will connect you with a TSNY tutor who is.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to reschedule or cancel a lesson, we ask that you do so at least 24 hours in advance. Lessons canceled or rescheduled on the day of the lesson will incur a $50 cancellation charge. Our tutors often make changes to their schedules and travel long distances to work with students. The entirety of the cancellation charge goes to the tutor to compensate them for the changes they have made to their schedules, and to the time spent planning for and traveling to lessons. Tutors are not obligated to be available at times outside of your original agreement. Our tutors are educators and academics with careers outside of tutoring, and their availability is limited.

Our Materials

TSNY Students who sign up for any of our deep dive packages never pay for materials. We cover the costs of all workbooks, study guides, or other materials your tutor assigns.

THe Best of what the market has to Offer

There are countless education companies putting out SAT books, ACT practice exams, and more. At TSNY, we explore thousands of pages of workbooks and practice tests to find out which materials suit which students. We know which SAT books make the math too easy. We know which AP U.S. History books fail to talk about the monetary policies of the 1970’s. We use that knowledge to help students make the most of their study time.

Larger companies want students to use their materials exclusively. That’s not the case at TSNY. We see the good work our competitors do, and want our students to benefit from that work. Selling study guides should never come before student success.

Our Worksheets, STudy Guides, and More

Because we know what is on the market, we also know what isn’t! TSNY produces formula sheets, study guides, practice problems, and more to help students master concepts and skills integral to their academic success. We especially focus on producing study supplements for exams like the ISEE and SSAT, for which it can be hard to find quality study guides and practice tests on the market.

We approach exam prep and subject tutoring holistically. That means we emphasize teaching students habits of mind and organizational skills that will help them succeed in all facets of their academic careers. In addition to practice materials, we also produce study aids to help students develop the tools they need to do well no matter the subject or exam.

Tailored AP and Subject tutoring

AP Exams may be standardized tests, but AP courses are anything but cookie cutter. Different schools and teachers use different textbooks, prioritize different materials, and utilize divergent approaches. Our tutors synthesize exam prep with students’ schoolwork, so that students’ AP lessons help them with that pop quiz on Thursday, and the AP Exam in May.

TSNY team members build their lesson plans for different AP exams and different academic subjects using the materials students use in their schoolwork, as well as select supplementary study aids like workbooks, ready-made formula sheets, and more.

 Our Web App

All of our SAT and ACT students get unlimited access to our web application, found at TSNYApp.com. Upon enrolling, students are invited to register an account for our app, where they can find study supplements, grade exams, keep track of their progress and homework assignments, and access our Question Bank. The Web App is currently designed for SAT and ACT students, primarily. We are currently in the process of expanding its features for other exams and subjects.

SAT and ACT Grading

ACT and SAT students can produce automated, detail scoring reports for their exams using the TSNY app. These reports help students identify areas of strengths and weakness, as well as the specific topics of questions they get wrong.

The Question Bank

Students often have questions about similar topics, practice problems, and so on. Between lessons, students can utilize the question bank to ask questions and find answers to problems and concerns, while they wait for a response from their tutor.

Progress REports

After every lesson, your tutor will email and post to the app a homework assignment, a summary of what was done in the previous lesson, a breakdown of what will happen in the next session, a report on the student’s progress, and a note about how past and future lessons fit into the student’s overall study strategy.
