Four YouTube Channels for Learning Spanish

Want to learn Spanish? Looking for videos to help your kids make Spanish class a little easier? You’re not alone. Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in the United States. Artists like Bad Bunny and Rosalía dominate Spotify and YouTube, bringing in a new wave of Spanish language pop culture to the U.S. Resources like DuoLingo, Babel, and Rosetta stone are well-known and popular, but for a lot of us (especially students), there is nothing quite like video. Just by hopping on YouTube, students of all ages can find tutorials, explainers, and even skits for speakers of all levels. For this post, we’ve compiled a list of a few accounts we find students come back to again and again.

SpanishPod101

SpanishPod101 is a comprehensive language learning platform that offers lessons in a variety of formats, including videos, podcasts, and written materials. Ideal for older students, their YouTube channel features a selection of video lessons that are perfect for beginners who are just starting to learn Spanish. They emphasize learning Spanish as it is spoken. Students learn by focusing on the most commonly used verbs and nouns, and the most central tenses and grammatical formations.

The Spanish Dude

Though most of their videos are a bit older now, this page is great for students who are looking to understand some smaller details about the Spanish language. The lessons are fun and engaging, and the host, Alex, has a great personality that makes learning Spanish feel like a breeze. In these well-produced videos, you’ll learn about the details of the language that textbooks often brush over. When do you use “mirar” vs. “ver?” What are some handy rules I can use to figure out the subjunctive? Alex has you covered on these topics and more.

Español con Juan

Like Alex, the host of “The Spanish Dude” channel, Juan is a lively host and teacher who can help students navigate the details of the language as they get deeper into high school. Especially useful for students studying peninsular Spanish (i.e. Spanish from Spain), Juan covers a wide variety of topics about Spanish grammar, word choice, and a little bit about Spanish culture as well.

Super Simple Español

This page, unlike the others listed here, is great for small children trying to get acclimated to learning Spanish at an early age. This channel features fun animations and catchy songs that help young children learn the basics of Spanish vocabulary and pronunciation. Parent beware: once you put this channel on, be ready to hear a lot of songs about Shark Santas and Cucumber Pudding!

One of the best features on YouTube is the Suggested Videos tab that appears alongside each video. Even if these channels don’t quite suit your needs, by starting with these, you’ll be able to find channels that offer the style, speed, and focus that best suit you or your kids’ needs.

As always, we areavailable by phone and email around the clock. Parents can also schedule afree 30-minute consultation to learn more about how Tutoring Service of New York helps students achieve their best. We look forward to hearing from you!
